Looking Back to the Future...

Wrote this back on March 6, 2007. He was and probably still is my favorite recruit. I think he will make an early impact with this seasons Irish Squad. Nothing has changed and I cannot wait to see this group of Defensive recruits come together as a team...

Anthony McDonald: The son of former USC and NFL linebacker, Mike McDonald, Is another high priority recruit for the 2008 season. At 6'3" and 220 pounds, with good speed and strength, he is a perfect fit into the outside backer position of Corwins new 34 personnel Defense. Add a couple or 25 pounds, now we got ourselves a true MLB.

Wathcing film of Anthony's play shows he has great lateral quickness and can scrape and shuffle into holes like a seasoned veteran. Blocking him is a problem teams face as he finds the ball quickly and gets to the hole "Right Now". Against larger opponents, he uses his hands very well to clear the blocks and sight the ball. He is not afraid to commit to a lane because he has the skills to make corrections and he will Lay the Hat on an opponent with vengeance. His closing speed to the ball is phenomenal for a high school athlete.

He is a big ND lean and I feel he will commit at or around the spring game in April. (Actual 4/11/2007).

Charlie is learning the college game and has recruited at his own leisure. He will always recruit offensively first, but this seasons recruits will lean towards the defensive side of the ball. It all began today with the committment of Sean Cwynar from the Chicago area.

Defense is a priority and it all starts with the front seven. Especially in the 3-4 defense. The Rules State sacks and pressure are a must.

Charlie has it hizzzzzzz waaaayyyy....

Anthony McDonald has been talked about for weeks as coming to ND, but now the word is out and it is official. He came with his entire family, he saw what ND has to offer, and he decided to Let the force be with him and become the arch enemy of his Fathers Alma Mater. He definitely knows what he is leaving, and what he is coming to. I am sure that USC will come in late and offer, but integrity seems to be a big part of the new Irish class and nobody is going to pull a Little on us.

He is a player that the Irish wanted for his ability to make plays from the inside or outside in the 34 defense of Corwin Brown. At 6'3" and 220 pounds, he will probably play in the middle of the D. But with his quickness and athleticism, he could play a big outside LB'er.

I read an Interview with Anthony on March 11th and knew that he was Irish, just waiting for the right time. He attends Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks California.

After watching the film that I could, my conclusion was that this kid needed to be a Domer along with Arthur Brown. Brown is a long shot for now, but if a Scholorship is available in the fall and he sees the Defensive play that is coming, he will also be Irish. McDonald is a teammate of Dayne Crist who is another target of Charlie and Company.

Good Luck Mr. McDonald and you are certainly welcome at this Notre Dame.

Two LB's ND could Use...

With the Notre Dame defense making the move from a 4-3 defense to 3-4 personnel this coming season, the Irish coaches are aggressively recruiting linebackers. Arthur Brown is the fifth player at the position to be offered, joining Chicago’s Steve Filer, David Posluszny of Aliquippa, Pa., Shayne Hale of Monroeville, Pa. and Anthony McDonald of Sherman Oaks, Calif.

Arthur Brown: Is probably the best LB in the class of 2008. He attends East H.S. in Wichita Kansas. I don't feel like he is a big lean towards ND at this point, but I am sure Corwin and Charlie are hitting him with everything they have right now. He plays at full speed on every down. He will Lay the ball carrier out and Watching film of him reminds me of Chris Donald in this years class. They both play fast, strong and close on the ball very very quickly. As a running back, his balance is impeccable and burst into the hole is very impressive. The kid can do it all. Landing him to come to ND and play in the new Defense is a high priority. Whether he commits is another story. Some of Brown’s other scholarship offers are from Nebraska, Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Kansas and Kansas State. His brother Bryce is also a highly recruited sophmore. Maybe if Charlie gets early interest in Bryce, we can get Arthur? A little Nepotism never hurt anyone. Did it? Brown Profile

In order to find his equal, an Irishman is *forced* to talk to God.
