Six Keys To Victory...
A reporter asked if Notre Dame was overconfident going into Saturday.
Coach Weis answered, “But in this game [San Diego/Cal Poly], having watched two thirds of it so far, okay, there’s plenty of evidence on tape of things that we have to worry about. There’s plenty of evidence, be it their quarterback throwing the ball up and down the field. I’m not going to get too much into that game yet. But kickoff coverage team, you know, all of a sudden one guy blowing up everything there. You watch it on special teams. And then watch it on defense, you know, them creating turnover, turnover, and getting when they’re making a critical stop towards the end of the game when they had a chance to put the game away. So there’s plenty of evidence on the tape for our players to realize that they need to get to work.”
Their coach is dumber than our coach. Advantage San Diego.
The 6-3, 245-pound Smith, who promises Notre Dame's season-opening game against San Diego State (0-1) on Saturday is "going to be violent," doesn't think "Puppy" is a fitting moniker.
Listen, no one should throw a pity party for the Irish after last season's 3-9 debacle. We certainly won't. But we do think the deck was certainly stacked against them with that slate.

Spring Game, New Rules
If the offense wins big in the Spring Game, will you be happy?
If the defense shuts the offense down, will you be happy?
What will make us happiest?
IF THE OFFENSE WINS, will it be because they are so far ahead of the D, or will it be that the D stinks. AGAIN!
IF THE DEFENSE WINS, will it be due to the offense not forming as quickly, or will it be that the O-line stinks. AGAIN!
We are screwed either way. Whatever happens, we will talk. It will be interesting to see where guys are lined up this season. I expect some unexpected changes.
Questions:
Big Sam Young, Back on the right side?
Harrison Smith putting time in as a Fullback?
Trevor Robinson gets a haircut?
Gary Gray as our number one cover corner?
Tenuta and Brown come to blows at the last practice before spring game?
What color will "The Shirt" be this season?
Who invented liquid soap and why?
Clausens added size helps him in the pocket?
Guarantees:
ND will be better on the O-Line!
ND will be better in the D-Backs!
The D will be faster to the ball!
Michael Floyd will be an immediate force!
ND will be better in the kicking game!

Looking Back to the Future...
Anthony McDonald: The son of former USC and NFL linebacker, Mike McDonald, Is another high priority recruit for the 2008 season. At 6'3" and 220 pounds, with good speed and strength, he is a perfect fit into the outside backer position of Corwins new 34 personnel Defense. Add a couple or 25 pounds, now we got ourselves a true MLB.
Wathcing film of Anthony's play shows he has great lateral quickness and can scrape and shuffle into holes like a seasoned veteran. Blocking him is a problem teams face as he finds the ball quickly and gets to the hole "Right Now". Against larger opponents, he uses his hands very well to clear the blocks and sight the ball. He is not afraid to commit to a lane because he has the skills to make corrections and he will Lay the Hat on an opponent with vengeance. His closing speed to the ball is phenomenal for a high school athlete.
He is a big ND lean and I feel he will commit at or around the spring game in April. (Actual 4/11/2007).
Charlie is learning the college game and has recruited at his own leisure. He will always recruit offensively first, but this seasons recruits will lean towards the defensive side of the ball. It all began today with the committment of Sean Cwynar from the Chicago area.
Defense is a priority and it all starts with the front seven. Especially in the 3-4 defense. The Rules State sacks and pressure are a must.

Did you KNOW?
In 2007, 7 Irish players were drafted in the NFL. This was more than USC, Miami, LSU and many other institutions.
As always, the Irish recruiting takes them to many states. Usually more than most other schools. Take a look at this link. You can see where the incoming players are travelling from and the distances for each school.

Elder High School has landed a big name college coach to speak at its annual Sports Stag.
Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis will be the featured speaker at Elder High School's Sports Stag on January 16, 2008.
Elder senior standout Kyle Rudolph is one of Weis's big recruits for next season.
Zbikowski giving back to the game
August 2, 2007
Tom Zbikowski's professional boxing days likely are over, but the Notre Dame football captain still is making an impact on the sport.
Zbikowski will present a check to the Chicago Park District on Friday on behalf of his charity organization to pay for boxing lessons for more than 200 underprivileged children.
''When I was a kid, we all went to the Park District gyms,'' said Zbikowski, who attended a news conference Wednesday to support his friend David Diaz. ''Everyone was allowed into the gyms.
''But things have changed. Now it's like $15 a month, and some kids can't afford that. We want to help out those kids who can't afford to pay for boxing lessons.''
The ceremony is scheduled for noon at Daley Plaza, and it will tout the world amateur boxing championships coming to Chicago in October. Chicago's new Olympic logo also might be unveiled.

Weis Out of the Closet......and some other late news
The former offensive coordinator and a three-time Super Bowl winner with the NFL's New England Patriots, Weis told Torre of his experiences accepting heat for being a loyal Yankees supporter in Red Sox country.
"I didn't realize how down-to-earth and what a crazy Yankees fan he is," Torre said. "He said that during his time in New England, he always stood up and took the hit for everybody who was a closet Yankees fan."

QB GurU...
Crist is one of the top rated passers to come out in the class of 2008. His offer was no surprise. How could Notre Dame not make an offer to CRIST. His committment was inevitably apparent when he appeared on Power Hour back in late February. He just wanted to make the visit and know that it was right.
Last nights interview for FSN was impressive. Well spoken, Golden boy image. Thankfully no Hummers were involved in this committment, but another great get for Charlie and company. Says he had a feeling inside that just "Felt Right". He wants to compete and is not worried about depth charts. Weis is the reason for this recruiting season. Crist spoke about Quinn, Tom Brady and Weis being the QB guru.
One of the best parts of Crist Committment is that USC and Pete Carroll are playing it down with the second coming of the "MITCH", and his mother, Of course. A trade any Irish fan will take anytime.
Discussions on Charlies plans for the two C's coming up later.
In order to find his equal, an Irishman is *forced* to talk to God.
