Gary Gray & Munir Prince

Freshman Gary Gray, a 5-11, 180-pound early enrollee, broke his arm yesterday in practice in a one-on-one bump drill with a wide receiver. He broke the arm by trying to catch his fall. The good news is that it’s not displaced. The bad news: Gray will be out 4-6 weeks and will miss the rest of spring practice. The freshman came to campus to get a head start on the defensive backfield competition and now he’ll have to sit and watch from the sidelines.

This is a tough break becuase Gray is a guy that is a true cover corner. Something the Irish need desperately. He is not big, but during the AAA game, he had no trouble covering some of the best WR's in the country. I am sure he will continue to workout and come full strength when Summer/Fall Practice begins.

He is young and the bone will heal. The break is non-displaced, which means that it is broken, but not seperated, Like The Picture Above. Although Weis spoke today about a 4-6 week period, Non-displaced forearm fractures usually require a Long arm cast with elbow at 90 degrees for 8-12 weeks. Let's hope for the best and Gary can learn while watching and listening. Not a bad thing for a freshman at Notre Dame.

In another move, Munir Prince, was moved to corner. The two moves are related, but Coach Weis said that Munir asked for an opportunity to play corner, because of the depth in the offensive backfield. He has previous experience. In high school as a junior in East St. Louis, MO, Prince was an all-state selection at cornerback. The timing for the move was just right. He is faster than most on the team, except for maybe Armando Allen. Prince's forty time is not his forte, but he has recorded a 10.4 in the 100 and 21.0 in the 200. Both times are Qualifying AAU times. Weis felt that the Cornerback position was becoming a little light and Prince asked for the change to help the team in any way he could.

Prince's Specs:

Height: 5-9.5
Weight: 164
40-Yard Dash: 4.68
Short Shuttle: 4.25
Vertical Jump: 32"
3-Cone: 7.20

Speed at corner is a GOOD thing. A positive attitude on the switch is good too. More competition from excellent athletes that want to see PT--is priceless! Let the games begin.

In order to find his equal, an Irishman is *forced* to talk to God.
