In 2006 ND got beat up by a pretty good ScUM team. They went on to win 8 in a row, before falling in the final two games. If this team can go on and win out, only losing to FuSC (in a tight match) the coaching staff, along with the players will have shown heart. I believe we have the talent to win. I just don't believe we have the coaching to win.

After watching the game over and over, there is one thing that sticks out, and this thing has stuck out for a long time here in Irish Land. We play S.L.O.W., especially on Defense.

Watching the "U" last night, granted they played a pretty poor Ga Tech team, showed me how fast a team can play. We have the athletes on both sides of the ball, we just don't have the desire to do what needs to be done.

I have mentioned on this site and others that ND is lacking in two areas of recruiting. OL and especially DL. We don't have the "Allen Bailey" type or the Marcus Forston on the line.

I use UM as a scope because the coach, Randy Shannon is in his 3rd year and under fire down here, until now. They may not win the ACC, but they are playing football the way it's suppose to be played. Fast and with a furious emotional passion. Something ND has not had in a long time.

ND has always played with the emotion of their coach. Holtz led teams played with discipline and fire. Davie and Willingham led teams played with fear and learned how to lose with grace. Weis led teams have, so far, played with his emotion, NONE. Recruiting has been up, but the play on the field leaves a lot to be desired. If we can put up 40+/game, we will have a chance to get pummelled in a New Years Day Bowl.

The top teams have two things in common:
1. Recruiting the top athletes from around the country

2. Coaches that coach with passion

And in the current atmosphere of College Football. One out of Two is just not enough.

Go Irish, Beat FuSC

You have to admit. There is a uncanny resemblance.

I know this is not Notre Dame related, but it is USC. And it is funny.

Leaky Trojan

It looks like Reggie Bush cannot leave USC with anything good.

Southern California is looking into whether it may have violated NCAA recruiting rules while pursuing highly rated recruit Joe McKnight, a university official said.

McKnight signed a national letter of intent with USC on Wednesday and made comments during a news conference that seemed to suggest communications involving former Trojan Reggie Bush, who is now with the New Orleans Saints.

Down to 18-- (SBT) We lost 2, but they did stay at home. Does that make it better?

Bye Bye Bye-- (CS/CT) ND Hoops need some D to keep the Bye a viable option.

USC-- (LAT) Just another 5 star player...

What if ND signed 10-- (LAT) Just think of what would happen if ND only got 10 guys today.

In the Summertime-- (LAT) Are there any classes at Holy Cross with this type of grading system?

Kansas over FSU-- (KCS) We did lose two, but not to Kansas.

California top 100 is out and guess who is on top?

I know he hasn't played a down and will have to deal with a ton of pressure, but I think this kid can do it.

Another one bites the dust...

Malcolm Smith has verbally committed to USC. That is two guys lost in two days. Not a streak Charlie will like. Still have a lot of need on the D side of the ball and not much out there to fill the holes.

Goodbye Malcolm, see you for the next 4 years.

My boys have Skillz with a Z!

Video from Irish Illustrated. Prior to Hughes and Tate commits, but a very nice piece on the skill positions the Irish are recruiting.

Down to 4 top prospects. Can the

Irish get any of them?

Top Prospects

CB R. Johnson

Don't think he is coming. I see him at MSU with the new Coach. Great speed and breaks on the ball exceptionally well. Runs like a deer, natural instincts and a ball hawk. Can turn his hips and change direction without losing a step. A step above the competition. Jumps routes extremely well. Hard to find weaknesses in his game. Super all-around athlete. RoJo is a guy that would do really well at ND. With Gary Gray on the other side, the Irish would have corners that could actually cover somebody.

DE J. Peters

This is a guy that the Irish desperately need, but this too shall not come. Not enough interest from the big guy. Even after Charlie visited him personally. Charlie has said there will be surprises on signing day. Any one of these 4 guys would be huge surprises

WLB M. Smith

Brother of Steve Smith from USC. I feel he is the best shot ND has at a top recruit. Big, strong, fast and versatile. ND would do well to get Smith.

S M. Wright

Probably a Gator. He visited ND, but IMO it was a social visit to come see some of his HS mates. Smith or Wright are desperately needed by the Irish in the secondary.

Report: Tapes could confirm Bush received gifts

SAN DIEGO -- The existence of taped conversations between Reggie Bush or members of his family and an investor in a failed sports marketing agency could confirm the New Orleans Saints running back received cash and gifts while playing for Southern California, Yahoo.com reported Wednesday.
