It's been a couple of days and all of us have wondered, pondered, flustered and cursed the ND football team. It was a Pathetic display on both sides of the ball, but the area that really lacked that extra something was the coaching.

The vaunted 34 D, players getting to the ball early and often and somebody laying a hat on the opposition, play with some HEART for gods sake. None of these things happened and the blame needs to lie on Charlie for not getting the players prepared. It is only one game, but to have the biggest bust in 100 + years on opening day is just not acceptable.

There were 11 games this past weekend where teams scored 3 (three) points, including the GT/ND match up. Three of the teams had less total yards than the Irish.

Sacramento State had 51 plays for 102 yds, averaging 2 YPP
San Jose State had 49 plays for 115 yds, averaging 2.35 YPP
Virginia had 46 plays for 110 yds, averaging 2.39 YPP
Notre Dame had 63 plays for 122 yds, averaging a whopping 1.94 YPP

Cincinnati put up 59 points on S.E. Missouri who were able to run 59 plays and get 262 yards averaging 4.44 YPP.

What does all this mean? Your guess is as good as mine, but one thing CW needs to do is step up and run HIS offense. Not some Holtzesque type of game with the players that are not suited for it. Play all his freshman that can play and work for next year. That's right "REBUILD". Show that the players he recruited can get better as the year goes on.

I want to see Clausen and Allen in the Backfield. DJ and or Sharpley should not and cannot be at QB. Not worth the hassles. Kamara split wide and what happened to Ragone? Get him in with Carlson who is probably sorry for staying at this point.

Next week will not get any easier going to Happy Valley at night and Charlie better get the Irish ready for a hostile crowd and a Defense that will come at them from all directions.

I had a coach that once said this prophetic statement:
"If you can run, pass and tackle you will win more games than you will lose. Everything else is just gravy. If you can't do those things, I haven't done my job".

So until next week I will hold out hope that Charlie and company are doing their job. Thankfully we are not Michigan fans and losing our collective minds. There is plenty of time (2 weeks) for ND to come back and show some heart. At least GT can run the table and get to a BCS game.

Good stuff as usual Irishman. Way to go.

In order to find his equal, an Irishman is *forced* to talk to God.
