It doesn't make much sense that the decision took so long, but Malcolm Smith is staying home and play for the Trojans. It would have been really nice to pick up such a versatile athlete for the Defense, but it is what it is.
Notre Dame is a long way from most of the top athletes and Charlie needs to show the recruits the benefits of coming to South Bend and playing for the Irish.
This will happen, but only when the Irish can consistently beat some elite teams. Right now the Irish beat the teams they are suppose to and they lose (without much competition) to the very good teams. This needs to stop, but I am afraid that next season will NOT be the year.
